Imus Is A Rapper Now
Look out hip-hop, here comes “Imus”, a 60 something year old, white man, to take over the rap game. Come on, let’s get real, how is there any comparison to what Don Imus said about the Rutgers’ University Women’s Basketball team and some rapper’s generalized lyrics using “ho” and variations?
Firstly, rappers are not singling out a specific person or a group of people by name, in most cases, unless they, the persons, choose to accept that title! If there is a person mentioned in a rapper’s song, you can be sure that the target knows, that they are being spoken about! Don Imus, blatantly slandered directly, by name, the Rutgers’ University Women’s Basketball team! Not only did he verbally assault these young ladies, but he did so with an audience that reaches millions of listeners, viewers and readers! These innocent young women did nothing to him, Imus, to warrant such a media attack from a powerful and seasoned player in the media arena!
Rappers are not aimed at mainstream American audiences as we all know that Don Imus is. Rappers are not supported by big corporate sponsors, I’m sure they wouldn’t have to! These big corporations, get paid from the masses and not just fans of Don Imus!
Don Imus is revered by many in powerful positions and what he has to say is widely accepted by the mainstream. If a person with that kind of power of persuasion, he or she should be reponsible for what ever they say out of their mouths!
